Adapting to that Mbombela Climate
Mbombela Lodge is comfortably situated in the heart of a bustling city. Summer or winter, autumn or spring, we welcome guests from all over. Our rooms are designed for your comfort regardless of the weather, but when visiting Mbombela, you’ll find our climate is a little different.
The Lowveld has quite the reputation when it comes to the weather. Unlike other areas of Mpumalanga, the Lowveld is hot and humid for most of the year. Our climate makes it the perfect place for farming while our part of the world is also ideal for holidays.
To give you a better understanding of what the weather is like all throughout the year, we’re breaking up the seasons to give you all the information you could need.
Spring
Many a local will ponder whether our town even gets to have the in-between seasons of spring and autumn. Winter and summer tend to melt into one another very quickly, sometimes changing within the space of a day. Generally, when the trees are filled with flowers and the days get warmer, we know we are entering spring, even if it just lasts a week!
With the Jacaranda trees filled with purple blooms and the air fragrant with the smell of syringa flowers, we know summer is around the corner. The days also start getting longer!
Summer
It is the season that is either loved or loathed if you are a local resident. The weather can be quite the dividing topic. Unlike our neighbouring mountain towns, Mbombela is in somewhat of a hole. This is not a bad thing though, because we are treated to some exquisite views, but the town’s location tends to trap the heat in. And with the trapped heat comes intense humidity. Luckily, the humidity is generally broken by a thunderstorm in the afternoon or evening.
Staying at Mbombela Lodge in the summer is a breeze. With our air-conditioned rooms and on-site swimming pool, the heat is unlikely to trouble you.
Autumn
From about the beginning of April to the start of May, the days become blissfully cooler. The little bit of autumn we have is generally the perfect mix of summer and winter, but the days soon turn cold. When visiting Nelspruit during this time of the year, packing some light clothing is a must. By midday, the heat makes full on winter clothing uncomfortable and really unnecessary.
Winter
We really can’t complain about the weather in winter. The days are mild at best and the sun is just about always shining in winter. Travelling here from the end of May to the beginning of September is a pleasure.
