Great South African Weekend Getaways

April 5, 2022

The Easter Weekend is just around the corner and if you are planning to take a weekend break, it is a great time to explore a little bit of what South Africa has to offer, while recharging before taking on the rest of the year.

With a 4 day break coming up, there is quite a bit of time to see and do all sorts of exciting things, like hiking or game drives, or you can use this time to kick back and just be lazy once you arrive at your destination. South Africa is well known for its incredible diversity of scenery in both the cities and the more rural areas, and when you are planning your Easter weekend away, you should make sure that you choose a destination that fits in with your idea of the perfect weekend of relaxation.

One of the better places that you can choose for your weekend away is going to be somewhere in the Lowveld. Down here, we have amazing Easter weekend weather and some of the best accommodation. We are also a place close to the Kruger National Park, which is a favourite for those who are looking forward to spending some time in this world famous park.

And we are also in one of a most beautiful parts of the world, where city living takes a break and where those who visit can make memories that will last a lifetime.

As you plan your weekend away, these are top places you can go to, close to the city of Joburg.

The Natal Midlands/The Northern Drakensberg

There is something quite magical about the Natal Midlands and the Northern Drakensberg. A short drive from the city, this part of South Africa is one of the most stunningly beautiful parts of the country and for the Easter weekend, it is a great place to escape to if you want that cosy vibe.

The Lowveld

The Lowveld of Mpumalanga is a truly stunning place and there is so much to see and do here that you will never be bored for a moment. Home to ancient historical towns, hiking trails, amazing restaurants, and the Kruger National Park, over a 4 day period you will be able to pack your time with plenty of things to do. You will also be more than relaxed by the time the weekend comes to an end. If the Lowveld is your destination of choice, you can book your stay at Mbombela Lodge. We’d love to host you.

The Pilanesberg

If you want that more private game park experience, a trip to the Pilanesberg for the Easter weekend will be one great way to go into the wild for a while and really kick back. This is a private game park with all of the attractions you can expect, but you don’t have to fight through the crowds to be able to enjoy the full experience.
