There is something quite magical about the changing of the seasons, and as the Lowveld leaves behind another harsh and hot summer, travelling to our corner of the world is going to be a lot more attractive to many out of towners, looking for that dreamy autumn getaway.
The Lowveld changes seasons slowly and then all at once. The summer lingers and lingers and then one day you wake up and suddenly the heat has gone and autumn has arrived. The season doesn’t hang around for too long, but while it is here, the days are bliss. During the autumn, the days are starting to shorten but they are still warm enough to be comfortable if you want to spend some time outdoors. Although we don’t have that classical scene of leaves falling off of trees and pumpkins on every doorstep, the landscape does die back, the grasses turn golden and the air goes dry.
All in all autumn is a beautiful season, and if you are planning on travelling to our town at this time of the year, here’s how you can plan your trip.
- Pack something warm
The nights and early mornings take on a decided nip, making it just too cold for a summer outfit, but not cold enough for a winter one. Bring along some warmer clothing for those colder hours but keep in mind that the days are still quite warm, so you’ll need to have something lighter in your luggage too.
- Plan some sort of outdoor activity
With the weather getting a lot more pleasant, now is a wonderful time of year to go hiking or camping. Hiking in the summer can become a little too overwhelming for some and so instead of relaxing into the experience, you will be struggling in the heat. During the autumn months hiking is one of the best and most popular activities in the area. And if hiking is not your thing but you still want to spend some time outdoors, you can always go for a picnic or just sit outside and enjoy a braai.
- Indulge in the delicious things
It is officially warm food and drink season, and Mbombela has plenty of fantastic places where you can start indulging in the season’s best meals. Going up into the mountain village of Kaapsehoop at this time of the year is a must for foodies. The village is far colder and a lot mistier, making it the perfect place to enjoy those autumn vibes.
If this is the time of year that you love the most, and if you are planning an autumn break to our part of the world, you can book an affordable and comfortable stay at Mbombela Lodge. We are centrally situated in the town, and we are close to some of the best places to visit at this time of the year.
