Places to View Art in Mbombela

September 25, 2022

The Lowveld is not exactly known for its thriving art culture. As a place full of sunshine and open spaces, even in our towns and cities, we are more of an outdoor loving people, and when the sun sets, instead of finding locals swanning around art galleries paying complements to the stunning locally produced art pieces, you’ll find them standing around the fire or eating in a pub.

But if you are in the city and you are hoping to see what some of the artists in the area are creating, there are a couple of places where you can view some of the most beautiful art pieces. Some galleries in the city take on the form of a pop up while others are established galleries, but regardless of which you choose to explore, you will find some truly beautiful and one of a kind artworks that range from penciled and penned drawings to elaborate paintings, and even sophisticated statues created out of brass.

At Mbombela Lodge, we are situated in the heart of the city and this means we are one of the very best places from which to start your arty tour. We have some of the best Mbombela accommodation, with a range of rooms that will leave you feeling comfortable and which will provide you with everything that you could possibly need in order to help ensure that you have everything you need for your stay. Our lodge is the perfect place for a weekend or week away, while we are also the ideal place to stay if you are in town on business.

Art Galleries to Visit

The White River Art Gallery

Established a couple of years ago and partnering with some of the best in the art world, The White River Art Gallery is home to some of the best art in the area and it also plays host to both art exhibitions and general viewings, while it is also often a venue for events. The gallery is situated in Casterbridge, a picturesque centre in the village town of White River, meaning the gallery is just a short drive away from Mbombela Lodge.

Pieterson’s Art Gallery

If you want something more laidback and with a really eclectic vibe, Pieterson’s Art Gallery in White River is a great place to go. The gallery also doubles as a framing studio, and each day it sees numerous artworks coming through its doors. The owners of the gallery are incredible artists themselves, so a visit here is certainly worth it if you want to both view and chat about art.

The Market @ Friend’s Café

For an outdoors art gallery, The Market @ Friend’s Café is a place that is home to all sorts of local businesses as well as artists who on the last Sunday of every month display their incredible goods. The Market is home to a couple of painters and sketchers, who have a display stand with their art and who are also always open for a talk about their work.
