In a blur, November has arrived, with rain and storms which have revived the vegetation and made everything green and beautiful. Travelling to the Lowveld at this time of year is a great opportunity to enjoy a little bit of a break before the rush of December, and all of its festivities arrive, and there is quite a lot to get involved in.
November marks the slowing down of the year, and although the event calendar is not necessarily going to be jam packed with a lot to do, there is still more than enough going on this month to keep you busy during your stay in the Mbombela area. This time of year is also quite perfect for getting outdoors and going for a hike or spending a lazy day next to a dam, just soaking up the sunshine and enjoying those relaxed holiday vibes.
Along with there being a few interesting things to go and do this month, the market scene is also going to be in full swing. If you are looking for something unique and interesting to take home and gift during the holidays, now is the perfect time to buy it.
Things to do in November
There will be something to attend just about every weekend this month, so if you are looking to get a little social and experience a bit of the culture around here, this is what you can do in November.
- Remembrance Sunday
Although it is a day that is mostly observed by the UK, South Africa’s older veterans also commemorate the day but in their own quiet sort of way. The 11th of November marks the anniversary of the end of World War 1 and all around the country you are likely to encounter groups of people collecting money for military veterans as well as other causes. The first Sunday after the 11th is known as Remembrance Sunday, and in the nearby town of Barberton, the veterans and those who just want to observe the occasion and pay their respects will be gathering at the town’s Cenotaph.
- The Lowveld Toy Run
On the 26th of November, bikers and friends will be gathering at the Ingwenyama Sports and Conference Centre for a great party for a good cause. After a couple of tough years, many members of the local community are in need of help before the holidays, and this event seeks to collect toys as well as toiletries and anything else that can be donated to families and especially children in need. Entry to the event will cost you one (but preferably more) toys.
- The Weekly Park Run
Nelspruit is home to a fabulous Park Run which takes place at 7am each Saturday morning. It is an energising way to start the day and a great way to kick off the weekend. Maybe it is just me, but starting the weekend with a run just makes the weekend feel longer and more fulfilling. Like all Park Run events the entrance is free, and this one takes place out at beautiful Halls, and winds its way through the farmland.
