How to Save Money when Going on Holiday

August 18, 2022

Holidays are always going to be a little expensive, but if you plan your trip the smart way, you can actually save money during these financially tight times and make your trip a whole lot more relaxed and pleasurable.

You’ve probably read some things about how to save money before your holiday, things like shopping around for your accommodation and booking your flights with a company offering a deal, but when you are travelling locally, there are some other things that you can do to make the most of your holiday (and save a little cash).

With a few tips and tricks, you can quite easily save money while you are on your trip. Some things you can do while at your holiday destination, while other money saving suggestions can be achieved before you head out.

  1. Travel during the right season

If you are planning a holiday, travelling during the right time of year will be a great way to save money. Long weekends and those times of the year close to holidays are always going to be busy and as such they will cost you more. For this reason, if you can, then book your holiday during the off season.

  1. Book longer stays (or shorter ones)

Some accommodation places will actually give you a discount if you stay longer while naturally if you have a shorter stay, you’ll also pay less. This can differ from one place to the next so make sure that you get all of the information before you make your plans.

  1. Choose self-catering

Food is going to be one of the biggest expenses when you are travelling and so if you choose to make your food yourself, you can actually save quite a chunk of your budget. Preparing your own food can also give you the chance to explore what the local market has to offer.

  1. Don’t do too much shopping

When on holiday the mood is always light and you will want to do a little shopping, especially if you come across things you haven’t seen before. To save while on your trip, cut back on the shopping and instead become a photographic tourist.

  1. Look for freebies

Going on hiking trails and just looking for free things to do, like exploring free attractions is a fantastic way to save while still making the most of your trip to the city.

A lot of people come to Mbombela in search of a memorable holiday and they often find that perfect retreat when they book their stay at Mbombela Lodge. Our central location in the city as well as the fact that we are close to a lot of some of the best attractions that the Lowveld has to offer makes us one of the number 1 places to stay when you are looking for a fun retreat. And we are also a great place to stay if you are travelling to the city for business.
