Summer in the Lowveld
Spring is in the air! And if you know anything about Mbombela, being the Lowveld town that it is, we very rarely have much spring weather before we jump straight into summer!
One of the best times to visit our town has to be during the summer. Everything seems brighter; the plants come back to life and every flower is blooming. The air is filled with the scents of all sorts of wonderful summer smells. A walk through the area close to Mbombela Lodge on a cool summer evening can be truly invigorating. And when the summer days get far too hot, you can take a dip in our swimming pool.
The Mbombela Climate
When planning your stay at our Mbombela hotel, you should take the seasons into consideration. Unlike other areas of South Africa, Mbombela has a fierce combination of heat and humidity that can leave you feeling completely drained.
Summer, as we’ve said, pretty much arrives around the same time as spring. One day it’ll be cold, you’ll be wearing your best winter clothing and praying for summer to hurry up. The next day, it’s suddenly summer, and you start wishing for those cooler days to come back. When planning and packing, especially when travelling here from August to March, you need to make sure that you have the right clothing to keep you cooled off. Sure there might be some colder nights, but the days can be stifling.
The average summer temperatures in Mbombela hovers at around 28 to 29 degrees Celsius but many days easily reach highs of 30 degrees and more.
Staying at Mbombela Lodge
When in town on holiday or looking for that perfect lodge to retreat to after a day of meetings, Mbombela Lodge is the ideal place to stay during the summer. Our rooms are kitted out with air conditioning, and large windows to let the fresh air in. We also have a swimming pool on the property.
Things to do during summer
The earlier you get out there if you are planning on going hiking or doing something else outdoors, the better. Here are a few things you can do during the summer in the Lowveld:
- Visit the Lowveld Botanical Gardens
A picnic or some exploring in the beautiful gardens makes for an unforgettable day. Remember to pack a few snacks along with some water, there is a restaurant in the gardens but for those walking around, taking a bottle of water is a must. - Escape the heat
By going to Sabie or Kaapsehoop. Up in the mountains, you can spend your day exploring waterfalls and forests, well away from the humidity. - Have a meal outside
Because of our gorgeous climate, we have many outdoor restaurants. Spend an evening sitting in the breeze, sipping on a sundowner. It’s the best way to end your day.
